The Chain of Survival when SCA strikes!

Has your life been affected by Sudden Cardiac Arrest? Have you known someone who has died from Sudden Cardiac Arrest? If so, you are not alone and if not, chances are you will be affected by SCA at some point.

Of course we all know that Sudden Cardiac Arrest has to do with the heart and most of us know that we should know CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation), but do you really know what the "odds" are if you are struck with SCA (Sudden Cardiac Arrest)?

Many researchers have said that the earlier a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)person is tended to and helped the better the chance of survival.  Many call this the "Chain of Survival". Professionals say that first need to recognize what is going on and act on it. Seek medical attention by calling 911 or have a bystander call. Inquire where the AED (Automated External Defibrillators) is and ask someone to retrieve it. Stay with the person until EMS arrives.

If you don't know CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation), learn it. It's not a difficult thing to learn and could save a life.If you are unsure where to take a class or find out information about CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation), check out the American Heart Association website.

If you want to help in other ways, get involved in an organization that supports awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest. You can join the Living for Zachary family by attending the Living for Zachary Golf Tournament on June 20, 2011. Living for Zachary welcomes donations, sponsors and volunteers. Let's all save a heart, together we can!

A Mom on a Mission .......

Being a Mom is one of the most joyful experiences that a woman can feel. After carrying this child for several months - you can't wait to see his or her face. You begin to "dream" of what they will look like, act like - how you will take care of them, and what you will name them. You pray endlessly that they are healthy and "just perfect". All those feelings are feelings of  the normal Mom. What I find to be so funny is that - the squished up funny looking baby that comes out of you is by far the most beautiful thing you have seen in your whole life.  You are just in "awe" and you know - you will feel that way when they graduate high school, leave for college, get married or if they sadly are no longer on this earth.

Karen Schrah feels the pain of losing her son, Zachary Schrah everyday - especially on Mother's Day. When Zachary passed away in April of 09-  Karen knew that she had to do something to help other Mother's not ever experience the pain that she was dealing with. With all her feelings - heart and soul she start Living for Zachary.

Living for Zachary is a non-profit organization with a mission dedicated to saving young lives from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). The organization was founded in honor of Zachary Schrah, who was only 16 years old when he collapsed during a high school football practice in Plano on April 2, 2009. After Zachary’s death, Living for Zachary was established to raise awareness of undiagnosed heart issues in teens.

Karen is so thankful for the the 16 beautiful and amazing years that she got to spend with Zachary and looks forward to helping and raising awareness to other parents about SCA. A Mom truly on a mission.

To all the Mother's around - Happy Mother's Day from the Living for Zachary family!!
